This holiday season completely got away from me… After spending the first part of December in Texas, I headed into Christmas feeling so unprepared and a little burnt out. Somehow, I managed to pull it together and we had a really great season even if I still haven’t ordered holiday cards or mailed out presents… Long live the Holidays =)
Being away from our family during the holidays is never easy but Ryan and I have started a few of our own family traditions and I was determined to see them through this year! Here’s a few favorite highlights from our holiday season …
-Every year we buy an ornament on whatever vacation we take but we spaced and forgot to buy one in Turks and Caicos and then again in Mammoth so I made sure I picked one up for us in Texas!
-Spotting Christmas Lights was so much fun this year, Easton even remembered all the houses that had lights in our neighborhood so when we would drive anywhere he would say “here comes the deer lights” or “here comes the Frosty Snowman Lights” … every house had a name based on their lighting situation ha!
-Cookie decorating was a little more like cookie eating this year but the kids and I had a great time… even though we didn’t actually decorate one single entire cookie haha
-Seeing Santa went a little better this year (our third attempt) than the previous years! On the first two tries, Ev wanted nothing to do with the guy and Easton was too apprehensive to sit on his lap but our third try was a super success! They both sat on his lap and gave him high fives and told him they wanted “a purple present” (ev) and a “toy present” (easton) I think what helped was seeing Santa in a more intimate setting (Breakfast with Santa at Rancho Bernardo Winery – I highly recommend this event if you’re local to San Diego) with no crowds and going with a friend (who was deathly afraid of Santa haha)!
-And last, Christmas morning… Santa really came through and the babes had a blast opening their Christmas presents! We tried to stay true to our “minimal toys and no batteries” parenting style and thankfully the babes loved everything under the tree (and grandparents did a great job picking out imagination based toys)!
I hope you all had an equally wonderful holiday season filled with love and laughter! I’m ready to ring in 2018 and enjoy the end of the year with my littles!
