COVERED UP | A MAMA BEACH GUIDE

We’re in the midst of a SoCal heatwave which has landed us at the beach or near the water almost every day over the past week and weekend. With every trip to the beach, I’m learning all about what we truly need to tote around. Our first beach trip last summer consisted of a loaded down double stroller, baby wearing so I could fit more into the stroller, most of which we didn’t even touch. This summer I’m taking a much more minimal approach to heading out to the sand. I have a one bag rule, if it doesn’t fit, it doesn’t go. Here’s a few of my beach essentials… many of which I keep in the car so we’re ready to hit the waves whenever.

1.) Toys – beach toys are great, but don’t go over board. We bring a few small diggers, a blow up toy or two, a bucket, and a few shovels… this provides us with hours of play!

2.) Shade – I’ve tried the beach without shade, but with two young kids on a hot day, it ended up being a disaster. I bought this portable pop up tent from Amazon and it’s been a lifesaver for outdoor summer activities.

3.) Baby Powder – alright mamas, some of you seasoned beach goers know this already but for those of you who don’t, baby powder is the magic sand wand you’ve been looking for. Leave the wipes at home and toss in a bottle of baby powder… sprinkle it where ever there is unwanted sand on baby/toddler and gently wipe off. It soaks up the moisture and the sand dusts away as easy as the powder does.

4.) Snacks – I would say about 70% of my beach bag is filled with snacks… there’s something about the sand, surf, and sun that makes a toddler just plain ravenous.

5.) Sunscreen – stating the obvious here, but a good and easy to use sunscreen is pivotal for beach trips. I hate rubbing in sunscreen on to a sandy/wiggly toddler so I usually try to grab a bottle that sprays on easily.

6.) Mama swimsuit – This sounds silly but it’s actually incredibly important. Having a comfortable swimsuit on at the beach can make all the difference in your trip. My 3 must have’s in a swimsuit are coverage, supportive, and cute.

7.) Cover-Ups – A good coverup for me is equally as essential as a good swimsuit. I don’t always feel 100% running around chasing twins while wearing a swimsuit. Some do, but for me, I’d prefer to run around in an adorable coverup and plus, I stay protected from the sun! SwimZip makes the cutest coverups for mama and babe!

8.) Port-a-potty – Potty trained twins can be difficult so we’ve decided to never leave the house without our handy dandy port a potty. It’s much easier than trying to find a bathroom at the beach and also much cleaner.

9.) Linens – A good beach blanket and a great absorbent towel are high on our priority list. I usually only pack us one towel to share between the three of us and just air dry while we eat lunch or a snack!

Okay, so after I typed that out, it seems like a lot of stuff to tote around but honestly, with the exception of the shade tent, it all fits in my beach tote! If you’re heading out to the beach, stay safe and have fun! Cheers!
