10×10 CHALLENGE | MOM STYLE

Ah, Raise your hand if 2018 has been off to one slooooowwwww start?! I’m not sure if I’ve had a form of writer’s block or if I should say I’ve been just plain lazy, but I’M BACK and feeling motivated! I’ve been tossing around the idea of a capsule wardrobe but every time I go to build it, I draw a blank. Enter the 10×10 challenge! It’s like creating a mini-capsule wardrobe… and seriously, you can stick to anything for ten days!

The thought behind the 10X10 challenge is that you take 10 pieces of clothing and shoes and wear them for 10 days, so simple right?! I, so easily, find myself stuck in outfit ruts or looking at a closet full of clothes and thinking “I have nothing to wear” so over the past year or so, I’ve really focused on whittling down my wardrobe to staple pieces and investment pieces. Things I wouldn’t take for granted, would take care of, and would last me a while… and while this can be tough when we live in a world of fast fashion and ever changing trends, I’m finding that these investment pieces are standing the test of time too! I first heard the phrase, “fewer better things” from the brand, Cuyana, and I fell in love with the concept so that’s the mindset I try to be in when making purchases!

For this challenge, I wanted to choose pieces that I already owned because for me, the whole point of this challenge is to make the pieces I have work for me in different ways! There’s one piece missing because it’s currently at the tailors and I’m hoping it gets finished sooner rather than later. I went with two pairs of pants, 1 pair of shorts, 1 sweater, 1 tank top, 1 dress, 1 utility jacket, 1 pair of slip ons and 1 pair of slides! So that’s 9 pieces just to recount… but the 10th should be joining soon haha! All the pieces have the ability to be layered since this seemed to be my biggest struggle when mapping out my outfits. As I checked the weather, I realized some days were starting off in the low 50’s and ending up in the mid 80’s… I needed to create outfits that could start out warm and finish off cool, thus the layering theme!

Here’s what’s included in my 10×10 Challenge:

1.) My favorite Doen Dress, it was a seasonal purchase from last summer but I’m hoping they will recreate the style in a different pattern!

2.) A utility jacket for layering and cooler mornings.

3.) My current favorite and most comfortable pair of jeans.

4.) Black Joggers, they can be dressed up or down with the simple change of shoes and blouse.

5.) A basic lose fit tank top, this one by paige is a linen/cotton blend so feels so soft!

6.) A neutral cashmere sweater to layer with.

7.) These madewell shorts that I have had for years, so comfy and pair great with sweaters!

8.) My favorite overly worn slides (probably need to purchase a second pair of these)

9.) Vince slip ons for days that I have to “mom” or just need to cover up my feet!

So far I’m on day 2 and finding it super easy to reach for the outfits I pre-planned! I’m going to recap at the end of the challenge with each outfit and how I paired them but here’s a little preview on what’s to come over the next 10 days! Follow along on my instagram to see how I’m pairing everything and comment to let me know if you’ve done the challenge or are planning on it! I think… and don’t mark my words, but I think I may do this challenge once every season! =)
